In October 2025, NCEA visited Erbil and Duhok to assess ESIA and SEA systems in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The mission highlighted urgent challenges such as water scarcity, nature conservation, and urban planning. NCEA is exploring cooperation with government, NGOs, and academia on capacity building, policy advice, and training. Next steps include drafting a collaboration framework and start up targeted activities to strengthen environmental governance and resilience in the region.
