7222-01. OMVS - Senegal, Mauritania, Guinee, Mali
The river Senegal crosses 4 countries and is an important source for irrigation water, electricity and biodiversity. The OMVS - established in 1972 - is the managing authority of the river. Currently the OMVS is involved in the SEA for the Koukoutamba Dam in Guinea. To understand the why and how of SEA, the NCEA provided a distant introductory training for about 10 staff en 2020. This training also marks the start of our collaboration with the OMVS. A joint programme will be developed as soon as after COVID travel will be possible again. Topics under discussion are the practice of ESIA and SEA at OMVS, including the complex area around Saint Louis, the mouth of the river.
