In the framework of its capacity building programme in Burundi, the Ministry of Water, Environment, Lands and Urban Planning (MEEATU) in Burundi requested the Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) to review an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the project Clean and Waste Free Bujumbura (CaWFB).
The review was conducted by an NCEA working group together with a review team of the ministry of environment (MEEATU). This facilitated on-the-job learning by ministry staff. The joint team inspected the existing landfill and waste collection system as well as four proposed sites for composting, recycling, transfer, and landfilling.
The promoter of the project CaWFB submitted the final version of the ESIA of the project in January 2015. MEEATU asked the NCEA to review this final version.
