The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has requested the NCEA to review and conduct a training programme for BWDB officials on Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) of the River Stabilisation Plan under the "Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Investment Programme.

Significant details

The Jamuna-Padma-Lower Meghna river system is highly dynamic and has the third largest discharge of all rivers in the world. These rivers cause erosion of riverbanks, resulting in many problems.

To tackle these problems the government of Bangladesh is developing a River Stabilisation Plan as well as a Regional Master Plan for the period until 2040. These plans are made within the framework of the ongoing ADB-funded Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Investment Program ’2014-2023 (FRERMIP), implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) and the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB).
