NCEA's Dutch Sustainability Unit (DSU) prepared a briefing paper to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) about the review the World Bank (WB) was doing to update their Environmental and Social Framework (EFS).

Significant details

The NCEA analysed the proposed changes to the ESF; compared the new ESF against the WB’s own design objectives for the revised ESF, the criteria and principles provided by MFA and the current safeguards policies of the Asian Development Bank; provided insight into the current debate on the changes to the ESF, giving specific attention to the positions taken by international NGOs; and interpreted the changes proposed to the ESF in the light of what the ESF should achieve.
