The NCEA issued an advice on Terms of Reference (ToR) for an SEA for the Rio Paute catchment. It advised on the contents of this study as well as on the approach to undertake it.
Significant details
The Commission’s advice indicates which environmental problems occurring in the study area should in any case be examined further in the EIS. The Commission also asked that the impacts of existing as well as proposed projects and plans in the study area be described. On the basis of this overview the EIS should set priorities for solving problems. The Commission suggested a method for developing strategies to deal with the identified environmental problems and pursue the goal of sustainable development. By the end of 1996 no start had been made with compiling the EIS. The reasons for this include management problems within CREA, which has the leading role in ensuring the EIS is drawn up.
