SEA for the energy sector - Zambia

25 July 2019

Lusaka, 15-18 July - Energy is a key sector in Zambia's development and the National Energy Policy from 2008 is currently under revision. An SEA (strategical environmental assessment) for this policy could  inform decision makers in time on the most favorable options with the least negative social and environmental impacts. Furthermore it would facilitate stakeholder participation and generate support for the policy. Therefore, WWF-Zambia and ZEMA (Zambian Environmental Management Authority) asked the NCEA to deliver a training on how to implement an SEA for energy policies. Participants included representatives from government agencies, CSOs and consultancies. SEA is a statutory requirement in Zambia, and a more detailed regulation is close  to be adopted.
