Contributing to the collaboration between Vietnam and Netherlands on critical minerals

From 8 to 11 September, the NCEA visited Vietnam to contribute to the collaboration between Vietnam and Netherlands on environmental and social impact assessment in the critical mining sector.

A key activity was a workshop with the Vietnam Department of Geology and Mining (VGDM), organized by the Dutch Embassy in Hanoi with support from the KPMG. The session marked the start of a KPMG-led study on institutional readiness for scaling up critical mineral development. The workshop created space for participants to identify strengths and weaknesses in the environmental and social impact assessment system. This provided valuable insights to the KPMG team for undertaking the study. Through the workshop, they gained a good understanding of the environmental and social concerns and how they can integrate environmental assessment in their questions, analysis and recommendations for future improvements.

Once finalized, the study will be used as inputs to shape future collaboration between Vietnam and the Netherlands on the critical mineral mining sector.
