Lake Turkana project's main objective – sustainable management of the ecosystem of Lake Turkana and its river basins. The actual ambition is to develop an institutional mechanism to regulate the distribution of water between the two countries. The project consists of the following five components :
Development of a coordination mechanism for management of Lake Turkana and its river basins;Development of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) (for basin plan.);Support development of basin plan for sustainable ecosystem management of Lake Turkana and its river basins;Support development of Green Villages along Lake Turkana and its river basins;Support development of a monitoring plan of the ecosystem of Lake Turkana and its river basins.
The NCEA will provide the following main activities:
Independent advice on ToR for the desk study (this is a baseline study and first component of the proposed SEA);
Independent review of the desk study.
