Workshop for EIA communication strategy in Burundi

The NCEA facilitated a workshop on the development of a communication strategy for EIA in Burundi on 6-9 April 2015. The workshop was organised for the Office for the Protection of the Environment. It was intended to contribute to improved EIA application in the country. Currently, EIA is often applied too late or is not well done – even though guidance and tools have been developed by the government. Lack of communication was identified as one of the reasons for this: few investors know of the obligation to do EIA, or how to do it.
